Dear Bass River Members,
May 5th marked the third year of my ownership of The Bass River Tennis Club. It seems like only yesterday I approached Stephen Connolly and said, “I’d like to buy your club”. A lot has happened over the last three years including a lot of successes and a few struggles. Through all of it, one thing has never been in doubt; Bass River is a remarkable club with an excellent staff and a vibrant and enthusiastic membership. We have worked hard to maintain the high standards of programming and facilities management many of you have come to expect, all delivered by people truly interested in your tennis experience. We are looking forward to our 2010-2011 season with great anticipation. It will mark the 40th year of The Bass River Tennis Club. We have many events and celebrations planned during the indoor season. Be sure to watch for all those announcements as our season approaches.
So much for where we’ve been…..now for where we’re going.
In the past several months, I’ve reached out to a two individuals that I believe are the future of the Bass River Tennis Club for many years to come. You’re all familiar with Michael LaPierre, the General Manager of the club. Mike has worked tirelessly for more than three years with his promise to run the “Best Club Anywhere”. His dedication to programming and membership needs has helped to continue the clubs great tradition. His personal and professional commitment to Bass River recently caused his selection as “New England’s General Manager of the Year by the USTPTA.”
As for the second individual involved in our future, he is Mark Greenberg. Mark is a personal friend with a remarkable business career covering 26-years as a Managing Partner at Accenture. Mark continues to play an active role in a number of business ventures. He has a great passion for tennis and he believes in Bass River. Mark’s business acumen and wealth of experience will enormously enhance the quality of the Bass River Tennis Club. I have invited these two men to make an investment in Bass River and I firmly believe this will insure the future of this great club. Mike and Mark responded to my offer to raise their personal involvement and have made a significant capital investment in the club. I firmly believe that their investment, as well as their commitment to our club, positions us well for the future.
In preparation for the new season, we will be continuing to make improvements around our facility. We will soon start to update the ladies locker room as well as an all new pro shop and apparel area. You ladies will really like this! We are aware that the lighting on courts 4, 5, 9 and 10 are not up to our standards. We continue to share in your disappointment with the lighting quality. However, we plan to replace every bulb and every ballast in order to get the best quality possible. We will update the babysitting room, paint a number of areas and continue to pursue every opportunity to update and maintain our great facility.
As always, we welcome your input. If you have suggestions, programming ideas or comments of any kind, let me know,
MBarros@BassRiverTennis.com. Alternatively, you can reach Mike at MLapierre@BassRiverTennis.com, call him at the club, or better yet, talk with Mike in person. He is there to help you with any of your tennis needs. Mike, Mark and I will be reviewing all comments we receive, and the progress we are making, to insure that we continue on our goal to make Bass River the “Best Club Anywhere”.
Yours in tennis,
Manny Barros, President
